Current lighting design practice requires designers to consider both the visual environment they are creating and to delve into the operational characteristics of the systems being installed. Designers need to be able to articulate their vision of how the systems they design will work and how they will interact with adjacent building systems. Increasing stringency in energy codes has contributed to this trend and design teams now often find themselves faced with questions of how to create a level of interoperability that was not so commonplace in the recent past.

Fortunately, the tools exist to articulate both the designer’s intent and the specific steps required to achieve that intent. By examining the development process behind the Control Intent Narrative and the Sequence of Operations, this course will provide a look at the steps for assembling these documents and specific examples of language that is both clear and contractually enforceable.
